Aurora, 2012

blown glass, steel, LED lighting
9 ‘ x 7 ‘ x 2 ‘
Fort St. John, British Columbia, Canada

This sculpture brings the beauty of the Aurora Borealis into the Peace River District Hospital.

The LED lighting slowly shifts, mixing the color cast through dichroic glass filters onto the back wall and through the 30 hand-blown front glass elements.

The blown glass pieces range from 16 inches to over 6 feet in length. The subtle movement of the warm colourful lighting over the sculpture provides a relaxing contemplative break from the institutional environment of a hospital.
